Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
MMA is a combat sport involving STRIKING AND GROUND & POUND GRAPPLING type techniques, such as jab, cross, upper cut, knees, elbow, kicks, clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. A MMA bout is a physical competition, between two competitors or sparring partners, who attempt to KO, TKO or submit his opponent.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport system that focuses on grappling with emphasis on ground fighting.
What should I wear to BJJ class?
You must wear a Gi (ask the professor). You will need to buy a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi with our Patch on it or you can add our patch to your current Gi. Do NOT wear anything with extra pockets, belt loops or baggy fabric.
Should I wear a cup in BJJ?
Athletic cups. Some decide to wear them in training, some choose not to or simply don’t care. While in training you can wear one, you have to remember that in BJJ competitions, cups are banned.
How long does it take to earn a black belt in BJJ?
At least 10 years
It can take upwards of 10 years to achieve the dan (black belt) grade, and requires not only technical knowledge, but also verifiable ability in sparring. Competition experience is also often expected. And as there are only a few belts, you will spend a long time on each one. Also, your progress will not be linear.
What should I wear to MMA class?
We suggest a rash guard and board shorts, but a fitted t-shirt and comfortable athletic shorts will do for your first time. You may also want to bring a mouthpiece and a groin protector. If you’re taking the Kickboxing class and have your own gloves and shin pads, feel free to bring them. If you don’t, don’t worry!
Is MMA a good workout?
You get a cardio and a strength training workout, all in one. But intense workouts like MMA training can offer you even more in the way of fitness benefits that can, over time, become good habits.
